Prince William Wishes Princess Diana Could Have Seen His Children
Posted by Jeanne on May 30, 2017
It’s hard to believe but it’s almost been 20 years since Princess Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris. Her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, were children at the time and it was heartbreaking to see them go through such a horrific loss. It’s only natural, of course, that fans have wondered what she would think of the men they’ve become and Prince William has opened up a little bit about that.

In an interview with British GQ, the cover of which features William along with wife, Kate, and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the heir to the throne revealed: “I would like to have had her advice. I would love her to have met Catherine and to have seen the children grow up. It makes me sad that she won’t, that they will never know her.”
“I can talk about her more openly, talk about her more honestly, and I can remember her better, and publicly talk about her better,” William admitted. “It has taken me almost 20 years to get to that stage. I still find it difficult now because at the time it was so raw. And also it is not like most people’s grief, because everyone else knows about it, everyone knows the story, everyone knows her.”
That’s a really good point. What an added level of pain to have the whole world know what happened? It makes the grief impossible to escape. He credits his marriage with keeping him grounded.
“Stability at home is so important to me,” he said. “I want to bring up my children in a happy, stable, secure world and that is so important to both of us as parents. I want George to grow up in a real, living environment, I don’t want him growing up behind palace walls, he has to be out there. The media make it harder but I will fight for them to have a normal life.”
That’s absolutely amazing. While so many would be happy to just sit back on their laurels and live the royal life, he wants his son and daughter to know what real life is all about. His mother would be very proud.
